Orioles edge Red Sox by 1

The Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings yesterday in a hard-fought game of baseball. Each baseball game is different, and an MLB extra-innings game is always a possibility. Orioles pitcher David Hernandez (4.81 ERA) got the win, while Hideki Okajima (5.30 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Brian Matusz went 5.2 innings for the Orioles, allowed 4 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Orioles was Matt Albers (5.00), Mark Hendrickson (4.65), Jason Berken (2.15), and Will Ohman (3.38). The Red Sox’s starter John Lackey went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Manny Delcarmen (2.67), Ramon Ramirez (5.82), and Jonathan Papelbon (3.00) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Hernandez’s record goes to 2-5, while Okajima drops to 2-2.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Orioles put up 9 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Orioles, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Ty Wigginton had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Red Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Kevin Youkilis could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Red Sox got 3 runs, 8 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by James Hoye, Wally Bell, Laz Diaz and Victor Carapazza. There were 27,774 Orioles ticket holders in attendance at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
