The Boston Red Sox did battle with the the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim yesterday at Fenway Park with the Red Sox picking up the W 4 to 1. It was one heck of a game that folks with Red Sox tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (7.02 ERA) got the win, while John Lackey (3.47 ERA) took the loss for the Angels. Daisuke Matsuzaka went 6 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Ramon Ramirez (2.80), Billy Wagner (1.08), Daniel Bard (3.30), and Jonathan Papelbon (2.00). The Angels’s starter John Lackey went 7.2 innings, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Jose Arredondo (6.15) also pitched for the Angels. With the win, Matsuzaka’s record goes to 2-5, while Lackey is at 10-8.
In addition to the 4 runs, the Red Sox scored 9 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Red Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Casey Kotchman had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Angels didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Angels managed one run, 6 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Mark Wegner, Rick Reed, Jeff Kellogg and Tim Timmons. There were 37,942 Red Sox ticket holders in attendance at Fenway Park.
The win puts the Red Sox at a record of 85-58, (6.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Angels to 86-58, at the top of their division. The Angels will try to get a game back from the Red Sox tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
