Red Sox embarrass Royals at Kauffman Stadium

The Boston Red Sox crushed the Kansas City Royals yesterday at Kauffman Stadium with the Red Sox coming out on top 9 to 2. It was a solid match that aficionados with Red Sox tickets won’t soon forget.

Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett (3.78 ERA) got the win, while Luke Hochevar (5.98 ERA) took the loss for the Royals. Josh Beckett went 6 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 12 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with one walk and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Hideki Okajima (3.30), Billy Wagner (2.19), and Jonathan Papelbon (1.94). The Royals’s starter Luke Hochevar went 5 innings, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 6 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Victor Marte (7.88), and Carlos Rosa (7.71) also pitched for the Royals. With the win, Beckett’s record goes to 16-6, while Hochevar is at 7-11.

David Ortiz provided much of the offense for the Red Sox with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 9 runs, the Red Sox scored 12 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Red Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Victor Martinez had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Yuniesky Betancourt and Mitch Maier tied for most hits for the Royals with 3, followed by John Buck with 2 hits. Alberto Callaspo could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Royals scored 2 runs, 12 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Ted Barrett, Greg Gibson, Tim McClelland and Andy Fletcher. There were 18,989 Royals ticket holders in attendance at Kauffman Stadium.

The win puts the Red Sox at a record of 90-61, (6 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Royals to 63-89, (18.5 games behind the division leader). The Royals and Red Sox go again tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
