Red Sox fall to Rays 9-4

The Tampa Bay Rays challenged the the Boston Red Sox yesterday at Fenway Park with the Rays earning the win 9 to 4. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Rays tickets will definitely cherish.

Rays pitcher Matt Garza (4.08 ERA) got the win, while Daisuke Matsuzaka (4.50 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Matt Garza went 7 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Randy Choate (5.79), Grant Balfour (1.64), and Joaquin Benoit (0.82). The Red Sox’s starter Daisuke Matsuzaka went 6 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Scott Atchison (4.62), Manny Delcarmen (4.59), and Ramon Ramirez (4.88) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Garza’s record goes to 9-5, while Matsuzaka is at 5-3.

In addition to the 9 runs, the Rays scored 11 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Sean Rodriguez had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Red Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Red Sox got 4 runs, 8 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Phil Cuzzi, Jerry Crawford, Chris Guccione and Brian O’Nora. There were 38,055 Red Sox ticket holders in attendance at Fenway Park.
